Charge a lead-acid inverter battery at roughly C/10 to C/8 of its bank capacity, so a 150Ah bank wants a 15-19A charger. Under-charging leaves the battery permanently short of full; over-charging cooks the electrolyte. Separately, C10 and C20 on the label are discharge ratings — a C10-rated 150Ah battery delivers 150Ah over 10 hours and is the honest number for inverter duty.

Those markings describe the discharge rate at which the capacity was measured. A C20-rated 150Ah battery delivers 150Ah only when drained gently over 20 hours; pull it harder, as an inverter does, and you get less. A C10 rating is measured over 10 hours and is the more honest figure for inverter duty — which is why C10-rated batteries cost more for the same printed Ah.
When comparing two batteries, check whether both numbers are C10 or both are C20. Comparing a C20 label against a C10 label flatters the wrong battery.
Under-charging is the quiet killer: in an area with short grid windows, a charger below the C/10 band never completes a cycle, the battery lives permanently part-charged, and sulphation sets in. Over-charging cooks the electrolyte, drives water loss and warps plates. Both present identically to the owner as 'my backup halved'.

They are discharge rates. A C10 rating means the stated capacity is delivered over 10 hours, a C20 rating over 20 hours. C10 is the more realistic figure for inverter duty, so a C10-rated 150Ah battery outperforms a C20-rated 150Ah battery in practice.
Lead-acid batteries do not tolerate it well beyond about C/8. LiFePO4 packs accept C/2 to 1C, which is one of their genuine advantages — but only with a charger that has a lithium profile.
Only when the cause is chronic under-charging, which is common in areas with short grid availability. If the battery is sulphated, a larger charger will not restore lost capacity.
It is on the inverter's specification plate or datasheet, usually expressed in amps. Compare it against the C/10 to C/8 band for your bank size before buying either component.
